Development
The HF II missile started the development in 1983 and deployed to R.O.C NAVY in 1990. In 2007 the improved version of HF II BLOCK II has finished the development and deployed to Kwang Hua 6 FAC (Fast Attack Craft).
Currently, the next generation of HF II is under development. The improved functions will include following topics: range extension, increase the ability of penetration, multi-functions of active radar seeker, attacking the target along the coast and automation on target identification. As for fire control system, in order to make the user operation interface more superior than previous version, the improvement will focus on automation of mission planning.

 

Description
The Hsiung Feng II (HF II) is a subsonic anti-ship missile. The missile uses turbojet engine to get the thrust for cruising. It can fly at sea-skimming altitude to reduce the interception probability of enemy’s defense system.
The missile body of HF II has superior aerodynamic configuration and rigid structure design. The missile uses dual-mode seekers, the active radar seeker with ECCM capabilities and image infrared seeker, to search and hit the target. At the terminal guidance, the missile can attack the target by using special trajectory to penetrate the defense net of enemy. The warhead of the missile has remarkable armor-piercing capability. It will generate tremendous destructive power after the missile hits the target.

The HF II missile system can be deployed on battle ships, stationary bases and mobile trailers. The launching platforms can receive the instructions from target-acquiring system and command control system to saturate the target with multiple missiles using waypoints to fly in different paths to destroy the target ship.

 

Specifications
The HF II missile is composed by three sections, guidance and control section, warhead section and propulsion section. The missile body is cylindrically structured with turbojet engine inlet duct and solid-propellant booster at the rear side. The missile adopts the inertial navigation system (INS) integrated with GPS receiver at mid-course navigation phase and uses active radar seeker and image infrared seeker at terminal guidance phase. The missile warhead is equipped high explosive or self-forging fragments.
The guidance and control section of HF II is integrated by electronic modules. These modules provide the functions of navigation, flight control, time sequence, target searching and power for cruising. The warhead section has the optimize design casing, dynamite fuse and related relay devices. The turbojet engine of propulsion section uses high efficiency fuel for turbojet engine. By utilizing the solid-propellant booster, the missile can get the thrust to the designate speed and activate the engine of sustainer to continue the sea-skimming altitude cruising.

Status
The HF II missile is an important weapon system to protect our territorial seas for R.O.C Navy. There are two types of HF II have been deployed: HF II BLOCK I and HF II BLOCK II. So far the HF II missile system has been deployed to following platforms: Cheng Kung class frigate, Kang Ding (La Fayette) frigate, Jin Chiang class patrol gunboat, Kwang Hua 6 FAC, Hsun Hai FAC, stationary base and mobile system.
