Ching-kuo IDF High Performance Fighter
IDF is powered by TFE1042-70 turbofan engines and characterized by digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, integrated fire control system, and GD-53 multifunction fire control radar. By design of blended wing-body lifting body and advanced composite materials, which reduce aircraft weight and result in a higher capacity fuel tank structured, IDF is an air superiority defensive fighter meeting Air Force's requirements.
Roll-out of the first prototype was held in December 1988 and named Ching-kuo fighter by President Lee.
The first flight of IDF A-1 was made in May 1989.
Based on the original features, the performance upgrade program of Ching-kuo fighter was performed from 2001 to 2008 to increase internal fuel, improve electronic warfare and self-defense capability.
Under the original air combat capability, IDF has been upgraded to increase combat range, enhance mission survivability and play more roles in air-to-surface missions.
